Here in the Western US, there’s hardly a week that goes by that someone doesn’t report on the expectation that the Pacific El Nino effect is expected to bring a much-needed soaking this winter. Last I heard those who watch these things expect an 80% chance of a particularly wet season. Being in the roofing business, I have to say that I’m very much hoping the predictions are correct, but what does El Nino mean for people thinking of re-roofing their homes?

We were fortunate enough to have worked with the architect in providing our solid copper corrugated panels for a wall accent, along with customized details and trims.

Not surprisingly, I get asked about the price of a “metal roof” almost every day. Even though I’ve been answering the question for decades, it’s still a challenge to be concise. There are just so many variables that a quick answer is nearly useless in as many cases as not.

A potential customer contacted us this week as he prices out metal roofing and "premium" asphalt composition shingles. He mentioned that he's running into some obstacles as he searches for a qualified installer because many of them admit that metal roofing isn't their specialty. We're not surprised.

We were contacted recently by homeowner who had been told by a national solar contractor that the roof she had (our MRN Energy Star metal shingle) wasn’t suitable for mounting a solar panel array. They even suggested that she would need to change her roof to asphalt shingles in order to accept a set of solar panels on her roof! It’s unfortunate when such misguided and simply wrong information is dispensed by an operation that likes to present itself as an expert in the field.
