MRN Zinc Diamonds for "Cookie House" Re-Roof

Cookie House Lab Sarasota FL

We're really excited to be the material supplier for a project in Florida - a roughly 80-year old biological laboratory building of historical significance known as the "Cookie House."

It was the first marine lab on the Florida mainland, and its name comes from the pine log cross sections embedded in the concrete of its wall. Apparently, it's the only known house of its kind in the whole state. Check out the original building (and thanks to the Lemon Bay Historical Society for the image), then read on to see pictures showing the building with its new roof.

We supplied our MRN diamond shingle in a zinc-coated steel - a great choice given the fact that the architect wanted a material that would rust and look old and rustic while still offering superior perfomance.

They also wanted something that would emulate the original diamond shaped asbestos shingles from the period. The new roof had to be lightweight and stand up to high Florida winds, so our metal diamonds were a perfect choice. It looks great, and we're proud to be part of the preservation of the entirely unique Cookie House.
